This is one of my favourite rums.
Then they took out the vanilla and lime. How could they? I hear you say.
This is a video I dug up from a couple (?) of years ago just because I felt like it, and because I was recently reminded of it's sub topic when I found myself best man at a friend's wedding. That topic being holding on to what is important and valuable to you. No, not money, though that pays for the beer and bills. I mean love and friendship.
So enough of that, what about the Sailor? I hear you say. Well okay then. According to one (much denied) theory about the change in recipe, the 'vanilla wars' resulted in a change in recipe for the product.
The producers say they were simply reverting to their 'original' recipe. It matters not. I happen to prefer the version with vanilla in it. Perhaps it's just me, but it is all about individual taste?
If you get the modern version, a lime squeeze will improve it though it still won't be quite the same. I like it over ice with a small dash of cola and lime squeeze. You may prefer it without cola or with another mixer.
If like me, you like Sailor Jerry and you're looking for inspiration, go here for some recipes. It's their official website and has some great looking recipes.
Sailor Jerry gets 7/10 from me since the recipe change.
